Water in the rivers flow about,
Ice on the streets freeze the route.
Never a dull moment here,
Nor a tonne of glee we see.
In Winnipeg, there’s a lot of fun
People do pretend to have,
Especially in subzero degrees.
Gosh, what else can I can say about Winnipeg?
Another fun and silly poem. Winnipeg is the closest I have to a home town. I was born there and lived my first nine years there. One day I’d love to go back and actually participate in all the fun activities and festivals Winnipeg hosts year round.
Chinooks warm the winters here,
And spring does come twice.
Long are the seasons for sports.
Grey Cup winners do live here,
And the Stanley Cup as well.
Rarely do they complain,
Yet Albertans won’t move away.
I’m not much of a sports guy, but here is my acrostic for Calgary. Enjoy.
Sunny summers, we love the heat,
And winters cold, we now in defeat.
Springs and autumns are wet with snow.
Kicking and screaming kids never board;
Always something, fun events they can do.
Tis Saskatoon, city of bridges, ya know.
On the east, as far as the eye sees;
On the west too, too flat is the land.
Never a dull day, here in Saskatoon.
Poems do what they do best;
Occasionally rhyme if they must.
Everyone a critic or love the rest;
Today’s the day a poet you trust.
Read a verse and be a guest;
You, too, can now write poetry.
The promised son carrying the wood,
Led up the hill by father in grief.
“Where is the lamb?” asks the child.
“God will provide!” replies the man.
The Anointed One carrying His cross,
Mocked by those He came to save.
“Here is the Lamb!” God reveals.
“I have provided, sinner now come.”
The Lion of Judah risen from the grave,
Leads the children to Kingdom bliss.
“Behold the Lamb who was slain!
Now He stands in Life and Light!”
“I AM the bread of life.” Come to Me if you are hungry, I will give you manna from heaven.
“I AM the light of the world.” Come to Me if you are in darkness, I will show you eternal life.
“I AM the door of the sheep.” Come to Me if you are lost, I will give you a family of true bliss.
“I AM the good shepherd.” Come to Me if you are weary, I will give you rest and guard against your foes.
“I AM the resurrection and the life.” Come to Me if you are dead, I will set your spirit alight with the Holy Spirit.
“I AM the way, and the truth, and the life. No one comes to the Father except through Me.”
“I AM the vine and you are the branches.” Be rooted in Me and I will bestow unto you the fruit of My labour.
These are partially my paraphrase of Jesus Christ’s message in the Gospel of John.
The canopy above covers the ground.
A sweeping current washes dreams around.
He peeks his head up and hears the sound.
Will his shadow be on the ground?
Or will flowers early bloom all around?
And the birds migrate with their sound?
This day is his, underground
Above it too, and also all around.
Not late, this year, spring is sound.
